牛堀入江の夜明け——葦の間に舟が繋がれ、船頭は舳先から身を乗り出して浅瀬に水を注ぎ、鷺の群れが青の中を飛び渡る。
なぜ重要か
シリーズ中もっとも静謐な一図である。旅人もなく見世物めいた場面もなく、ただ一艘の仕事舟が夜明けの光の中にあり、富士はその傍らに佇むのみである。
注目すべき点
舟体の長い対角線は、富士の斜面と釣り合いを取るように配され、画面全体が両者の間で均衡している。
